Sign of the Foreign Affairs Committee
MP Jussi Halla-aho (The Finns Party Parliamentary Group) has been elected to chair the Foreign Affairs Committee. The Committee elected Halla-aho in a closed ballot vote at its meeting on Wednesday, 16 February.
The position of chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee became vacant when MP Mika Niikko (The Finns Party Parliamentary Group) resigned last week.
The Foreign Affairs Committee deals with significant treaties, as well as matters pertaining to general foreign and security policy, foreign trade policy, development cooperation, and international organisations. The Committee's remit also includes matters relating to the dispatching of Finnish peace-keeping troops and the joint foreign and security policy of the European Union.
