Speaker Vehviläinen to the Dubai World Expo

​Speaker of Parliament Anu Vehviläinen will visit the United Arab Emirates and the Dubai World Expo from 30 October to 1 November 2021. Vehviläinen will lead the Finnish delegation at Finland Day on 31 October in connection with Expo 2020 Dubai. The delegation led by the Speaker consists of Ville Skinnari (Social Democratic Parliamentary Group), Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, as well as representatives of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and Business Finland.

On Sunday 31 October, Speaker Vehviläinen will give a speech at the opening of the National Day of Finland of the World Expo and get acquainted with the pavilions of Finland and the United Arab Emirates. The Finnish Snow Cape Pavilion highlights expertise in clean technology, the circular economy, sustainable energy, digitalisation, education and travel, among other things. During her visit, Vehviläinen will also get acquainted with, for example, the Estonian and Swedish pavilions, and the activities of the Finnish School in Dubai. She is also scheduled to meet with the leadership of the United Arab Emirates.

During the trip, Vehviläinen will also visit Abu Dhabi and meet with Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates, as well as women MPs.

Minister Skinnari will also participate in the National Day of Finland programme and will open a seminar on circular economy in the Finnish pavilion. In addition, Skinnari's programme includes meetings with high-level representatives of the United Arab Emirates and Finnish companies participating in the Expo. Skinnari will also visit Expo pavilions of different countries.

More than 120 Finnish companies are participating in the exhibition. The main partners are Kone, Wärtsilä, Fiskars Group, Nokia, Konecranes, Metso Outotec, Fortum, Isku, Valmet, Finnair, Haaga-Helia, iLOQ, Granlund, Black Donuts Technology, Collaprime, Genelec, Smart Nuclear Energy Solutions, Education Finland and Neles.

The World Expo, which was postponed for a year due to the corona pandemic, opened on October 1, 2021. This is the first time in the entire 170-year history of World Exhibitions that the Expo has had to be relocated. The Dubai Expo is also the first World Expo in the Middle East. The Expo will run from the beginning of October to the end of March next year and will be attended by a total of more than 190 countries.​
