The Parliament of Finland will organise a meeting of Agriculture Committees of EU Parliaments on Monday, 28 October 2019 in Helsinki. The conference will have two main themes: the European Commission's proposals on the common agricultural policy (CAP) beyond 2020; and climate change as an element of agricultural policy. The conference will discuss these topics in line with the general theme of the Finnish Presidency, 'From discussions to solutions'.
The Chair of the Agricultural and Forestry Committee Ms. Anne Kalmari says that the CAP reform and bioeconomy will be two main discussion topics of the meeting:
‘On Monday, on behalf of 11 million European agricultural entrepreneurs and 22 million agricultural workers we will convene to discuss issues that could deeply affect agriculture.’
Conference speakers include Jerzy Plewa, Director-General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission, and the Chair of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council Jari Leppä, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland. Introductory speakers also include Francisco Guerreiro, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Parliament, Jussi Lankoski, policy analyst of the OECD, and Rene Castro, Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The meeting is organised by the Agriculture and Forestry Committee of the Finnish Parliament.
