Hannu Hoskonen, Chair of the Environment Committee, and Satu Hassi, Chair of the Grand Committee of the Finnish Parliament, shared their feelings after the EU climate change conference.
Hoskonen praised the introductory speakers, as well as the presentations given by European investors and representatives from the world of business: ‘The opinions voiced during the conference are all very valuable to us. Expert presentations were also excellent as the speakers have a clear vision of how Europe should develop.’
Hassi was happy to see that the meeting attracted participants from most Member States: ‘The introductory speakers highlighted what we could do to mitigate climate change. For me, the most interesting content was the presentations of the finance representatives explaining how the financial sector operates and how it should operate in order to direct investments at measures that would help to combat climate change.’
The conference agreed on the publication of Presidency Conclusions in which the majority of the meeting participants call upon the new European Commission and the European Council to step up the EU ambition level by setting a carbon neutrality target by 2050 and by raising the 2030 target.
Presidency Conclusions are available from the conference website.
